Makeup and perfumes are in simple words - luxury! It’s a common fact that we treasure these fancy items and keep them really close to our hearts. While we save a lot to finally splurge on them most of us are completely unaware of how to store and keep them. Yes, while we think that by just keeping them in our closet will do the trick it’s not always true.

While we are all aware that these luxurious products needs to be stored in a cool and dry place - that however is not it. Listed below are the best and worst places to store your makeup products and fragrances.

Moisturisers

Moisturisers are one of the most widely used products. Its best that you use it within a year of opening the packaging. Also, as soon as you notice a change in colour, smell or texture, we suggest you toss it away. Keep them in your makeup kit and keep it away from your wash basin.

Serums

Hair serums are another widely used body care product. With the monsoons kicking in, this should definitely be your best friend. Serums should be stored in “mini-skincare fridge”. Leaving them out in the open especially in the bathroom may lead to fungal growth.

Lipsticks and Mascara

Lipsticks if stored in an appropriate cool and dry place can live up to 2 years. However, you should never keep one in the car or in the bottom of your handbag as the heat tends to mess with the product formulation. Mascara and all other eye products have the shortest shelf life. You should ideally be replacing your mascara every three to six months.

Keep aloe vera gels, toners and masks in a nice and cool place. Also, remember that if you’ve left your product uncapped or loosely capped then it is most likely going to lose all its efficiency overnight.

Beauty hygiene is one of the most important aspects of our day to day routine. While we get extremely laid back and lazy in practising these methods, it indeed is extremely important for our personal benefit.
