Pinkvilla's Cannes Flashback : Aishwarya Rai's style transformation over the years

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has been working her magic at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival for more than a decade now. And with Cannes 2016 coming up, we thought it was befitting to take you through her fashion and style journey over the years.
So grab a bucket of popcorn and Read On!
2002
2002 was the year when Aish made her first apperance at Cannes for the premiere of her film 'Devdas'. She did a super traditional look in a yellow saree that she styled with gold jewellery. She looked pretty, but the jewellery was a total overkill.
2003
She came back to Cannes the following year as one of the jury members giving us a number of looks. Unfortunately, none of them worked. I think she wanted to wear Indian yet be modern but she ended up trying too hard. The outfits were not only tacky, they were unflattering on her too.
2004
I think 2004 was the first year when Aishwarya Rai Bachchan walked the carpet as L'oreal's brand ambassador. She wore a silver sequined gown which had cut outs and an open back. It was quite a bold look for Aish, but none of it worked. And what's up with the scarf?
2005
Next year we saw her do two red carpet looks. And clearly the black one was the winner. She looked lovely there. I really didn't mind the printed dress, but why was she carrying a chain bag and a scarf? *scratches head*
2006
Between the two gowns she wore in 2006, the black one quite didn't work for me. The whole ruffle detail looked like a Spanish dancer's costume. However the look in blue was a winning one. How amazing is that two tone neckpiece.
2007
Abhishek made his Cannes red carpet debut in 2007 with wife Aishwarya who wore a white strapless ruched gown with a diamond necklace.
2008
It was a string of red carpet appearances for Aish in 2008. While I loved the black gown, the wrinkles just killed it. I also liked the pink Cavalli number. However, the lace Armani and the green embroidered gown were total downers.
2009
Her white tiered Cavalli gown has been one of her most successful looks till date. But personally, not for me. Way too bridal. I much preferred her grey Elie Saab one shoulder gown. Love the little saree inspired drape.
2010
Her powde blue fish scale tiered mermaid gown is one of her iconic looks. This was the look that Madame Tussauds chose for her when they revamped her wax figure a few years ago. Her other two looks were a beaded strapless Armani Prive gown and a Pink pleated Gucci. Love the Gucci one the most. The butterfly neck, the cinched waist... so flattering! Love the bold color too.
And how can we forget this gold Sabya saree with emerald green blouse that she wore for the 'Raavan' premiere. Love the hair and the make up. Obsessed! I so want her to do Sabya again this year.
2011
She loves Elie Saab and Armani. 2011 gave us two amazing looks. But I love the two color Armani Prive look more. Its kinda futuristic yet feminine. Loved it head to toe!
2012
Aishwarya got a lot of unwanted and uncalled media scrutiny for her post baby body and everyone was waiting for her 2012 appearance as it was her first international appearance after the birth of her beautiful daughter Aradhaya. She once again opted to wear Elie Saab. She looked gorgeous in the embellished midnight blue gown. Love how it gave her a defined waist. Her second look was a white embroidered Abu Sandeep saree with an elaborate jacket blouse.
2013
Out of all of her 2013 appearances, the Abu Sandeep look and the Tarun Tahiliani were my least favs. I thought the Abu - Sandeep gown was beautiful when it came to the embroidery and the embellishments, but it lacked the effect I hope to see in a Cannes look. The hair with that Tahiliani saree... NO! However, the Elie Saab look and the blue Gucci with the pink lip... clap clap!
2014
2014 gave us her best Cannes look yet. The gold Cavalli number with that bold red lip and the diva hair.... so captivating! However, I wasn't a fan of her second Cavalli look. It just looked like a step sister to her first Cavalli look. Wish she had done something different. Her last look was a gorgeous Armani Prive gown.
2015
What a year 2015 was! She nailed looks after looks from her Blue Elie Saab to the stunning Ralph and Russo. We also loved the maroon Oscar De La Renta and that Georges Chakra was to die for. She also wore a floral Sabya and a floral applique lilac hued Elie Saab.
So there you have it. All of Aishwarya's looks over the years. What do you think of her style transformation. And what are you expecting from this Cannes veteran this year?
