The driving force behind luxury fashion house Chanel, Karl Lagerfeld has passed away at age 85 in Paris, France, according to reports. The German designer who took the cake from Coco Chanel and contributed to making the brand what it is today is no more. He also had a label under his own name - Karl Lagerfeld.

Known for his slick white hair and dark sunglasses, Lagerfeld always dressed to the nines and was always in a full black suit or tuxedo. He was suffering from bad health for a while now and concerns were raised when he didn't show up at his Paris fashion show. It was the first time ever that he missed taking a bow at the end of a Chanel show.

The designer who successfully made his way up the ladder also worked with big brands like Chloe and Fendi before creating the iconic CC monogram of Coco Chanel for The House of Chanel. He has also styled and created outfits for some of the  most popular faces like Rihanna, Julianne Moore, Princess Caroline of Monaco and more.

Condolences for one of the most prolific designers are pouring in since the devastating news. The fashion industry in India, as well as the world, are sharing heartfelt messages and mourning the loss of the fashion icon.

Victoria Beckham shared how sad she was to hear the news. "Karl was a genius and always so kind to me," she said in her post. International designer Valentino also shared an old picture of himself with the legend.

Karl was hired when Chanel was fading to irrelevance. But he transformed it so much so that it is said that the revenue of the brand is more than $4 billion currently! Clearly, Lagerfeld was a game changer for the brand and the whole fashion industry as a whole. "I would like to be a one-man multinational fashion phenomenon," he once said. And a fashion phenomenon, he is.

We are heartbroken at this news. The world of fashion and design has lost a true legend. RIP Karl.
