Iconic designer and Creative Head of Chanel, Karl Lagerfeld passed away due to ill health, just days before Fendi's 2019 fall show in Milan. It was one of the last collections that was overseen by the designer and the brand put up a moving tribute to their creative head of 54 years. Their tributes were both big and small gestures to the designer that they put up during the runway show. In the notes for the Milan show, a line read that the collection "is the final collection designed by Karl Lagerfeld, representing a lifetime of dedication and creation from 1965 until today."

A video recording of the iconic designer was also played at the show. It showed Lagerfeld being asked to draw himself in the way he appeared on the first day at Fendi. The grand finale of the show also saw the designer's signature styles being displayed on the runway. Think white stripe accents, long overcoats, pleated trousers, structured dresses and fur coats with an elegant double F logo in cursive known as "Karligraphy", his signature handwriting.
Supermodel Gigi Hadid, who Lagerfeld shared a good rapport with, closed the show in a Fendi logo bodysuit, paying homage to the icon.

Hairstylist Sam McKnight, who worked closely with Lagerfeld for years, created looks that he hoped the legend would have loved. Think short, low ponytails secured stiffly at the nape of the model's necks, and a glossy swirl that stayed put on the model's foreheads was a nod to the decade that Lagerfeld was born in - the '30s.

The faces of the models were kept clean and looked exceptional with the classic red lip. A few of the models even wore large tinted frames that sat perfectly on the bridge of their noses. Clearly, the homage to the fashion icon was unmistakable. "The look at Fendi was slick perfection, just as I hope Karl would have loved."
