We all have become huge fans of the street style brand, Off-White and it is all because of the founder and creator, Virgil Abloh. He also happen to be Kanye West’s confidante and longtime creative director for his brand. Abloh has now been appointed as the new artistic director of men’s wear at Louis Vuitton, one of the most powerful and influential European houses in the luxury space.

Virgil becomes Louis Vuitton’s first ever African-American artistic director. Abloh said, “I feel elated. This opportunity to think through what the next chapter of design and luxury will mean at a brand that represents the pinnacle of luxury was always a goal in my wildest dreams. And to show a younger generation that there is no one way anyone in this kind of position has to look is a fantastically modern spirit in which to start.” Virgil has plans of relocating his family to Paris to take the job at the largest brand of LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton; the world’s largest group.

Kim Jones departure from Louis Vuitton was quite emotional and speculations were rife as to who his successor will be. It was only last week that it was announced that Kim Jones would become the men’s wear designer at Christian Dior replacing Kris van Assche. “Virgil is incredibly good at creating bridges between the classic and the zeitgeist of the moment,” said Michael Burke, chief executive of Louis Vuitton.

Virgil, 37, is a Ghanaian-American who was raised in Illinois and is majorly known for blending street style with high end couture. He has previously worked with famous brands like Nike, Moncler, Jimmy Choo. He will continue to run Off-White, he said,“it is for the 17-year-old version of myself, whereas Vuitton is for the 37-year-old I am today.” He will showcase his first collection for Louis Vuitton at the Paris Men’s Fashion week in June.
