August 21 marked the first day of the Winter/Festive season of Lakme Fashion Week 2019, which commenced from yesterday with the biggest designers showcasing their latest work. Everything from plus-size clothing to boho prints and carnival-esque patterns, flowy silhouettes, pleats for ages and more gave an insight into the upcoming trends of the season.

The event kicked off with Half Full Curve promoting body positivity by showcasing plus size models in their latest collection Gulab Bagh. The label presented luxury fashion for larger women with silhouettes which aimed at women who flaunted their curves with textiles inspired from patterns of wall art and interiors of royal palaces! The urban gypsy like patterns on the dresses were created with embellishments and colour blocking the outfits.

Vineet Rahul also showcased his latest collection Pichwai which offered a contemporary take on the interpretation of Pichwai colours for handwoven materials like chanderi and silks. The models showered mogra flowers as they strutted down the runway in outfits which featured tassles, French knots and bold prints of flowers and birds on the traditional and elegant weaves of tunics, kurtas, kimonos, skirts and blouses.

Malvika Mohanan made for the perfect showstopper in teal blue flared pants with metallic polka dots and a sexy bralette.

Pallavi Mohan presented her latest Not So Serious Collection - Simply Cool 54, which was inspired by the disco subcultures featured flowy silhouettes and loads of feathery textures on the outfit. Metallics were her main focus and she brought back the iconic braids that went well with the outfits.

Esha Gupta played muse to the designer in a stunning ombre metallic gown with a long trail and feathered texture.

Sonal Verma ensured her label Rara Avis showcased how she embraced The Still Life, by depicting the expressions of French painter Jacques of the 17th century in the form of simple solid colours, plaid prints and heavily embellished details on flowy silhouettes. Heavy jewellery made for epic statement pieces on the models who walked the runway.

Payal Singhal continued her success at the fashion week by showcasing her collection Gypsies and Bohemia. She created a splendid Turkish and Moroccan bazaar set on the ramp and drew her inspiration from Islamic architecture and the colours of the bazaar. Her creations featured embellishments, cutwork jaalis, leather embroidery, frayed tassles. patchwork, pom poms and 3D textures.

Shibani Dandekar and her beau Farhan Akhtar looked stylish as they coordinated on the ramp to celebrate Payal Singhal's 20th anniversary at the show!

Saaksha and Kinni also celebrated colours and prints on the ramp. All the glory of Indian prints from Ikat to tie-dye and embroidery, was showcased in their latest collection on the ramp.

What is fashion without street style! #StreetFeat changed things up on the runway with Six 5 Six Street, Gundi Studios, Biskit and Jaywalking giving us a peek into the latest street style trends with a dash of athleisure. Bomber jackets, sports bras, lose fitted pants with large patch pockets, colourful bandanas ruled the ramp when it came to these designers.

Celebrated designer Amit Aggarwal closed the show with his latest collection Flux which reimagined the laws which directed the journey of light through cuts, embroidery and brilliant hues of colour. Loads of pleats, metallics and bendable fabrics ensured that the show closed with a brilliant sizzle.

Lisa Haydon and Hardik Pandya sashayed the runway in the designers creations and made for the most perfect showstoppers who closed for the night.
