Jackfruit has a unique flavour and is used in a variety of dishes like soups, pizzas, and curries. Belonging to the Moraceae plant family, jackfruit is a tropical tree fruit and has a thick and yellow flesh with edible seeds. 

Nutrition-wise, it is rich in fiber and vitamin B6 and helps in lowering cholesterol, regulating blood sugar levels, and improving the digestive processes. An interesting and delicious way of eating this healthy fruit is in the form of a cottage-style pie. So try this easy and fuss-free recipe to make jackfruit cottage pie at home in just 5 simple steps. 

 
Step 1

Peel and chop 500 g potatoes and sweet potatoes and put them in salted boiling water for 20 minutes. Once the potatoes are cooked, drain the water and mash the potatoes.

Step 2

In a pan, add some oil and once the oil becomes hot, finely chop 4 cloves of garlic, 1 onion, 2 carrots, and 2-3 celery sticks and add these to the pan.

Step 3

Season with some salt and pepper. Cook the vegetables till they become soft and tender. Roughly chop one jackfruit and add it to the pan along with ½ cup of chickpeas. 

Step 4

Add 3 tbsp of balsamic vinegar, 1 tbsp chilli flakes, and ¼ cup of water to the pan. Cook the vegetables on medium heat for 10-12 minutes till the water starts boiling. 

Step 5

Preheat the oven to 200 degrees celsius. Pour this mixture into a baking tray and add the mashed potatoes on top. Bake for 15-20 minutes. Serve hot.
