Cabbage soup diet is for short-term weight loss and requires you to have as much cabbage soup as you can for 7 days. It is said to be effective in aiding weight loss by restricting your calorie intake. It is said to be low in multi nutrients, so one might have to take some multivitamins along with it. 


While following this diet, you are allowed to have some other foods along with the soup that are low in calories. Sugar and foods like baked potatoes, corn, bananas etc are to be avoided for the initial 3 days. Here is an easy recipe to make cabbage soup at home if you are thinking of trying this diet out.


Step 1

Chop vegetables including carrots, green peppers, onions, tomatoes, mushrooms, cabbage and celery into cubes.

Step 2

Take some oil in a deep vessel and add the onions. Saute them on high heat till they turn golden. Then add the chopped carrots, tomatoes, mushrooms, green peppers, cabbage and finally celery.

Step 3

Add 6-7 cups of water in the vessel and let it come to a boil. Reduce the flame to medium and let the vegetables cook.

Step 4

Cook till the vegetables become soft and tender, i.e till 30-45 minutes. For the vegetables, you can also add the ones that are low in starch like spinach or green beans.

Step 5

For seasoning, add some salt and black pepper powder. You can also add spices like chilli flakes or herbs like parsley to further enhance the flavour of the soup.
