Carrots, also known as ‘gajar’ in Hindi is a commonly available root vegetable found all over India. Similarly, radish or ‘mooli’, is another easily available vegetable found in Indian markets. These days the vegetables are found all year round but they are primarily winter vegetables.

The best thing about these vegetables is how versatile they are. Although usually consumed raw in salads, carrots and radishes can also be cooked into stews, parathas, pickles and roasted. Having even a small helping of both vegetables regularly will make you strong and healthy.

Difference between carrots and radishes:

The main difference between a carrot and radish is that the carrot is a root vegetable which is usually orange in color whereas radish is a species of plant. These are the nutritional differences between the two vegetables.

1. Carrots have significantly more Vitamins A,E and K than radishes.

2. Carrots are also a good source of Vitamin C, niacin, potassium, calcium and phosphorus. Carrots are also storehouses of of Vitamin K, Pantothenic Acid, Vitamin B6 and iron. Carrots are an excellent source of Vitamin A as well.

 

3. Meanwhile radishes are a good source of Vitamin K, niacin, magnesium, and zinc. Radishes are also a great source of Riboflavin, Pantothenic Acid, Vitamin B6, potassium, calcium, phosphorus and iron.

4. Radishes are an excellent source of Vitamin C.

Nutritional value of carrots

Carrots are a root vegetable, usually orange in colour. The most commonly eaten part of the plant is the taproot, although some consume the stems and leaves as well.

The roots contain high quantities of alpha- and beta-carotene, and are a good source of vitamin K and vitamin B6.
