EASY 5 Step Recipe to make delicious Chinese dumplings

Dim sum is an authentic Chinese meal that is made up of small servings of dumplings and other savoury and sweet dishes. It is usually consumed during lunchtime or brunch hours. It includes meat, vegetable and seafood dishes that are prepared in different ways, be it baked, steamed or fried.

Some dishes of dim sum include Siu Mai dumplings that are thin and round in shape and are filled with shrimp or pork and soup dumplings that are filled with hot broth and pork. So have a look at this easy 5-step recipe to make one of the most popular dim sum recipes, i.e. Jiaozi or Chinese dumpling.


Step 1


Combine 3 cups of refined flour and 1 cup cold water in a bowl. Add ½ tsp salt and mix well to form a soft and smooth dough. Knead into a ball and let it rest for an hour.


Step 2


To prepare the filling, mix 1 cup ground meat with 1 tbsp salt, 1 tbsp soy sauce, 1/4 tsp white pepper, 2 tbsp oil and 1 medium-sized finely chopped onion. Add 2 tbsp of ground garlic, ground ginger and 1 cup of finely chopped cabbage to this. 


Step 3


Knead the dough and cut small circles from it. Fill each circle with 1-2 tbsp of the filling. Wet the edges with water and fold the edges to seal the dumplings.


Step 4


Boil some water in a pan and add the dumplings to it. Once it comes to a boil, add 1 cup of cold water. Make sure the dumplings don’t stick together. Cook for 2-3 minutes and then take the dumplings out of the water.

Step 5


To fry these dumplings, simply add 2-3 tbsp of oil in a pan and shallow fry them till they turn slightly golden. Serve hot with a dipping sauce of your choice.
