All of us are familiar with apples. Both green and red apples are easily available in the market and they have a few small differences but are more similar than they are different when it comes to nutrition. Green apples are mostly sour in taste and red apples are sweeter than their counterparts.That being said, green apples are a better source of vitamin A, vitamin B, vitamin C, vitamin E and vitamin K than red apple. Green apples also contain more iron, potassium and protein than red apple.

Difference between Green apples and Red apples:

The health benefit differences between the two are negligible. But green apples may contain slightly more fiber, and less carbohydrates and sugar than red apples. If you want to include more antioxidants in your diet, then red apples should be your choice.

On the whole, apples are rich in antioxidants, pectin, quercetin and flavonoids to protect our cells from oxidative damage. They are particularly good for heart, bowel and liver health and make an easy to carry, tasty snack.

Nutritional value of red apples and green apples:

What’s more important than the red versus green apple debate, is that how we actually eat them. Apples provide us with fibre which is essential for heart, gut, liver, hormone and heart health.

They also contain a variety of important vitamins and minerals that are essential for health and wellbeing. Unfortunately, apples do tend to be one of the most highly sprayed fruits, so it’s important to wash thoroughly before eating or, choose to eat organic apples.

How to transform apples into delicious treats:

If you're bored of eating plain apples, transform them into delicious treats. You can take the core out of a whole apple, stuff with a mixture of dried fruits (such as prunes, sultanas, cranberries), cinnamon and chopped walnuts and bake in the oven.

Top with natural yoghurt for a delicious healthy dessert or breakfast. Or you can also cut an apple into slices and spread with nut butter for a tasty snack. Another delicious treat is to stew apples with a little honey and cinnamon, and add to porridge for a heart healthy breakfast.
