Oat milk is the perfect alternative to dairy milk. It is one of the most popular plant-based milks. It is very much similar in taste, texture and consistency as cow’s milk and is, therefore, is one of the most preferred plant-based milk. Oat milk has many health benefits and is rich in nutrients like Vitamin B, calcium and Vitamin D.

It is best for those people who have dietary restrictions as it is lactose, soy and nut-free. Since some commercially available versions are not gluten-free, it is always better to drink homemade oat milk which is free of any sugar and chemicals. Follow these simple steps to make oat milk at home.

Step 1

Take 1 cup oats and soak them for 30 minutes or an hour. You can also soak them overnight. Drain the water and rinse the oats.

Step 2

Add oats and 3 cups of water and a pinch of salt in a blender and blend it for a minute. Be careful while adding the water for achieving thick and creamy milk. So don’t add too much water and don’t over blend.

Step 3

Take a napkin or a strainer or a thin towel and strain this mixture at least twice in a bowl to make sure there are no oat chunks present.

Step 4

Pour it in a milk bottle and refrigerate the milk for some days. Drink the milk cold and do not heat it as this can make the milk gelatinous and slimy in texture.

Step 5

To make it flavoured, you can add cocoa powder or fresh berries or vanilla extract depending on the flavour you like.
