Weight loss is not an easy journey. It takes effort and consistency. We know that French fries, donuts and piles of pasta are off-limits, but what other foods must take a back seat? There are some types of food which lead to weight gain like processed and refined food products. The key to lose weight is cutting back on calories. You need to burn more calories than what you eat in a day. So, what is the best type of food for weight loss?

With so many types of diet, it’s hard to know what to eat to get the desired results. Well, we’ve got your back. It’s best to choose nutrient-dense foods. They have plenty of vitamins, minerals and fiber. The smartest way to lose weight is to choose foods that have little nutritional value associated with them, such as added sugars, fried foods, sugar-sweetened beverages and alcohol etc. Let’s check out the list of foods you must avoid to lose weight.

  1. White Bread

White bread is highly refined and contains a lot of added sugars. It is also high on the glycemic index and can spike your blood sugar levels. White bread is typically high in calories and carbohydrates but low in fiber, protein and nutrients. Stick to whole grain breads which contain more fiber and are healthy.

  1. Chips

Chips are the most common type of processed foods. They are high in calories and may also contain added fats, sugars and salts. Choose healthy snacks like toasted nuts, celery with hummus or raw carrots.

  1. Fruit Juices

Most fruit juices you find at the supermarket have very little in common with the whole fruit. They contain a lot of added sugars and are highly processed. When the fruit is juiced, there is no fiber in it and doesn’t require chewing. It means that when you drink a glass of orange juice, it won’t have the same effects when you eat a full orange.

  1. Alcohol

Alcohol provides more calories than carbs and proteins. Drinking alcohol in moderation does not lead to weight loss. However, heavy drinking can lead to weight gain. The type of alcohol also matters. For instance, beer can cause weight gain. On the other hand, drinking wine in moderation may be beneficial.

  1. Ice Cream

Who doesn’t love ice creams? Well, ice creams may be tempting and incredibly delicious, they contain high amounts of sugar and calories. Having ice cream in moderation is acceptable for weight loss. You can also eat homemade ice creams with less sugar and calories.

  1. White Rice

White rice contains minimal fiber and protein. Foods rich in fiber helps to stay full for a longer period of time. It also has a high glycemic index and can spike blood sugar levels. Choose brown rice as an alternative since it is high in fiber and keeps you satiated.

  1. Microwave Popcorn

The chemicals found in the bags of microwave popcorn are known to increase the chances of developing infertility and thyroid problems. Popcorn is a great low-calorie snack but when it comes to microwave popcorn it is not helpful. This is because of the bag filled with additives.

  1. Sugary Drinks

Sugary or sweetened drinks are not only bad for weight loss but also one of the unhealthiest foods. They cause weight gain and other health complications. Sugary drinks like soda contain a lot of calories. However, they do not make you feel full. You end up eating more.

Following a proper diet and taking care of what you eat is important if you really want to lose weight. Choose your foods wisely and eat what’s good for you. Stay away from highly processed and refined foods.

Just watch what you eat and make sure to eat unhealthy foods in moderation. This means more veggies and fruits, less hamburgers and fries. The less sugar content, the better. If wanting to loose weight, eat less. It is better to eat more during breakfast, eat a medium sized lunch, and a small dinner.

I do believe what they say but if you can workout daily and have portion control then for the most part you should be ok.
