“Traveling - it leaves you speechless and then turns you into a storyteller” - Ibn Battuta

It is truly said, travel is for every soul who wants to breathe and LIVE. Want to spend some time with your girl tribe? Take a trip. Feeling heartbroken and want to find solace? Explore yourself and set on your own by travelling. Wanting to run away from the World with your special someone? Well, then it’s time you book your tickets for the ultimate sweet escape.

In simpler words, traveling cures. You become a different person altogether and you return rejuvenated, adding layers to your personality; but what about that place when you leave it? How do you treat the destination you’re visiting? Are you responsible enough in making sure that the tourist spot you’re visiting is well kept? Do you act and behave as a responsible traveller?

Well, here’s something which will break your heart if you’re all about wanderlust. These stunning locales have fallen prey to increasing over-population and maddening pollution. We’ve listed down holiday destinations which are in major trouble, courtesy, our sloppy and negligent behaviour towards nature. Let’s take a look at them.

Venice, Italy

Backdrop to a lot of film shoots, this beautiful city which is famous for its lip-smacking food, gondolas and beautiful architecture is at a risk of being ruined by tourism. Last year about 2000 locals had marched together requesting for cutting down the heavy tourism. The situation has gotten so bad that UNESCO had to take a step forward, warning everyone about the alarming consequences.

Bali, Indonesia

If there is one destination which comes to your mind first when we talk about honeymoons, or a perfect girls trip, then Bali surely fits the bill. The Indonesian island is well known for its beaches, rice terraces and deeply rooted culture. However, last December, the island was declared in the midst of a “garbage emergency”.

Maya Bay, Thailand

Maya Bay captures the iconic beauty of Thailand. Be it the sparkling white sand, clear blue waters or the scenic mountains, Maya Bay is a sight to behold. The destination gained major prominence after Leonardo DiCaprio’s film, The Beach. The beach was severely damaged because of the tourists and back in June 2018, the Thai government decided to shut it down for the tourists. The authorities shut the beach for the regrowth of coral reefs and aquatic life.

Bhutan

One of the best places to visit in the World. This beautiful country is facing a major fight with pollution. Last year, Pasakha, the industrial town in Bhutan has already made its way in the top ten most polluted cities in the World.

Cinque Terre, Italy

A sight which is sure to live in your heart for life. The beautifully painted houses on the bank of the Italian Riviera can make you fall in love all over again. According to locals, the increase in rise of tourism has led to the hampering of the infrastructures of the towns. Also, the traffic caused creates mayhem and dampens the peace of the locals and the environment.

While travelling is liberating, what we don’t understand is that we are ruining the beautiful places for the generations to come and messing up with nature. It should be our moral responsibility to make sure that wherever we go we do not destroy the natural beauty.

Feel alive while traveling but be a responsible soul towards Mother Nature.
