Tooth and gum issues such as decay, bleeding among others are quite common among kids as well as adults. However, the same is preventable if you follow certain tips. Aside from cleaning, use of fluorides and mouthwash among others, having a healthy and balanced diet equally plays a big role when it comes to maintaining good oral health and keeping oral diseases at bay.  Food items that are rich in vitamins A, C and D, calcium, protein and phosphorus will help you in the long run. In an exclusive interview with Pinkvilla, Dr. Karishma Jaradi, Aesthetic Dentist at Dentzz Dental, talked about how one can follow some tips and tricks and how one should include certain food items which will help you to get stronger teeth and gums.

She said, "To attain healthy teeth does not mean totally curbing on your sugar intake. You should eat sugar only as a treat and not as a staple diet. When consumed in moderate quantity it won’t cause any major damage to your teeth. Regular brushing with a soft toothbrush is the key to achieve healthy enamels. Also, regular flossing helps to get rid of the food particles stuck in between the tooth, this, in turn, prevents the build-up of bacteria and cavities. Visiting your dentist once in six months for a check-up can definitely help you maintain your enamels in the best condition."

She added, "Eat a balanced diet that is full of nutrients and limit the consumption of snacks. But if you still prefer binging on snacks, preferably consume stuff like cheese, yogurts, fruits and raw vegetables which will encourage your enamel health.

The following are the foodstuff for stronger teeth and gums that you should add to your diet.

1. Cheese and Milk
Cheese lovers can rejoice as eating the same will help you to maintain your pearly whites.  Dr. Karisma, "Cheese helps to lower the acidic level in your mouth and prevents plaque build-up. Chewing on cheese helps to increase saliva production and also helps wash out harmful bacteria." She added, "Milk is a good drink for your teeth. It is rich calcium contents and other vital elements help lower acidic levels and fight against tooth decay."
