Yoga is a great way to stay fit but when you’re on the outside and don't know much about it, it may seem a little intimidating. The way people manage to bend and stretch and twist their bodies and all you can think is how nearly impossible it seems. But it really isn’t! You cannot learn or practice yoga if you are uncomfortable and nervous. There is more to yoga than simply stretching and posing. Yoga is a mindful practice of transforming your body and mind and life. Yoga requires you to remain calm and composed and comfortable before you try all the asanas. Even after doing your research on the asanas and history you may feel uncomfortable before going to your first yoga class or trying yoga for the very first time even if it’s at home. Here are some things to keep in mind before you try this new lifestyle practice.

1. If you’re planning to practice yoga as a workout you don’t necessarily need workout clothes for that. You can start off with your comfy clothes and then depending on your requirement buy clothes that you think will suit you the best. If you’re joining a yoga class, don’t wear a loose top. You will need to bend a lot and that means that your top will come rolling down and make you uncomfortable and make it difficult to practice yoga.

2. A yoga mat is not necessary but it is a good idea to invest in one if you want to practice safe yoga. The tiles tend to be very slippery and you do not want to slip and injure yourself while practicing yoga.

3. When you practice yoga, you need to pay attention and cannot be distracted by your phone. Put your phone on silent mode or keep it in the other room. Avoid looking at your phone when you are doing yoga.

4. Yoga does not require you to be extra flexible. Yoga is not about flexibility but more about relaxing and moving with the right technique.

5. Avoid eating at least an hour before you practice yoga and ensure that you are hydrated. You may sweat a little and staying hydrated helps a lot. If you eat anything heavy right before you practice yoga you may feel uncomfortable and queasy.

6. Keep an open mind and don’t push yourself too much. Don’t strain your body if you’re unable to do a pose. Pushing yourself too hard or too far may lead to unnecessary injury or pain.

7. Yoga is a mindful practice and it requires dedication and determination. Don’t quit too soon. Be persistent and stay relaxed. Focus on your breathing and remain calm.
