Having periods can be the worst since we suffer from mood swings, irritation and cramps to name a few. It becomes difficult to work or perform daily chores since those hormones impact our bodies in different ways. And to curb that pain, we tend to crave for unhealthy things like chips, pizzas, sodas and Chinese to name a few. Yes, they are tasty and comforting during cramps, but they are not good for our system. Avoiding them is a better option since the components of these items, make us feel more irritated and bloated. And if you want those cramps and bloating to go away, eating nutrient-dense foods is a better option.

So, if you are on your periods and are craving something sweet and spicy, then here are things that you should avoid consuming when on periods. 

Fried foods:

We love to munch on fried food items during periods, but as tasty as they are, it's better to avoid them during periods. Since these foods can lead to bloating and stomach cramps as your body tries to process them.

Dairy products:

 

Time to say goodbye to those delicious milkshakes and ice-creams, since consuming dairy can trigger menstrual cramps because they ordinarily contain arachidonic acids, which are cramp-inducing.

 

Caffeine:

 

Bid adieu to caffeinated drinks during menstruation. Your body will urge you to consume some caffeine, but staying away is a better option. Since drinking caffeinated drinks increase blood pressure and heart rate. It further leads to anxiety and tension, which makes you feel more uncomfortable.

 

High fat food items:

 

While meat is a good source of iron, but consuming meat can make you feel worse during periods because it can lead to cramping, bloating and acne.

 

Salty foods:

 

During periods we feel bloated because we are carrying a higher amount of water weight than usual. Hence, consumption of salty food should be avoided since they are high in sodium and can worsen water retention. 

 

Sweets:

 

You love having one extra piece of chocolate, or one extra piece of Gulab Jamun during periods. But avoiding them is a better option. Foods high in refined sugar impact hormones because they cause blood sugar levels to fluctuate, which leads to mood swings and frustration.
