Do you often skip breakfast because you prefer sleeping 10 minutes extra than having a meal? Do you think that breakfast is a waste of time and it's okay to skip it? If yes, then you are wrong. Breakfast is considered as the most important meal of the day since it not only boosts your metabolism but also kick starts your morning in a better way. People who eat breakfast daily are less angry and cranky in the morning.

More than being a mood energiser, breakfast, literally means break the fast. Since our body doesn’t consume anything after dinner till we wake up the next morning, our body is starving. Having consumed the energy from last night’s meal, we need to recharge our battery, which is on a low level now. So having breakfast is something that our body needs.

With this, read below to find out how having breakfast can do wonders to your body.

1. Breakfast provides you with much-needed energy. Since your blood glucose levels haven’t been restored to normal levels, you are low on energy.

2. When you don't consume breakfast, you consume junk: We might not feel hungry in the morning, but as the day progresses, we tend to feel hungry before lunch and grab anything available, sugary or fat-laden. So, this is not only unhealthy but it also spoils our diet.

3. When you don't consume breakfast, your body has no energy and is like a car running on an empty petrol tank. Your brain refuses to pick up speed and concentration because you forgot to stock the fuel.

4. No breakfast equals to high-stress levels. Skipping breakfast makes you cranky, and you are irritable and people around you bear the brunt.

5. No breakfast also equals no weight loss. If you are trying to lose weight and nothing much is happening in spite of following a diet, then that's maybe because your body metabolism is going down instead of increasing. Staying hungry doesn’t make you lose; eating healthy makes it possible.

What to eat for breakfast:

Just because you want to have breakfast that doesn't mean that you'll have last night's leftover pizza or biryani for breakfast. That'll fill your stomach but will not provide you with nutrients.

Here are some breakfast options that you should keep in mind.

1. If you are running late grab a fruit and eat it on the go. You can also munch on some dried fruits.

2. If you have time to consume breakfast, then have poha, idli, upma, boiled eggs and oats. These breakfast options are not only nutritious but they also keep you full for a longer time.

3. Yoghurt smoothies are a good option too for a quick breakfast. Just pop in some berries or mango or banana in the blender along with some low-fat yoghurt, and your healthy drink is ready.
