1. Brushing techniques

Dr. Jaradi said, "One major tip to enhance oral hygiene is to improve on your brushing techniques. You must follow a regular and right tooth brushing routine. Invest in the right kind of toothbrush with soft bristles that remove food particles, thus reducing the risk of gum infections. The brushing techniques also play an important role in keeping the cavities at bay. Brushing should always be done in an attentive manner. The entire area of teeth should be covered while brushing and it should last for a minimum of two minutes for best results.

2. Cleaning of the tongue is also important

She added, "Cleaning of the tongue should be made an everyday ritual post brushing. This will help remove the deposited bacteria and plaque formation. Bacteria get formulated even on the toothbrush, so it’s necessary to replace the toothbrush once it gets worn out. If you are using dentures, it is a necessity to periodically clean them. Dentures should be taken out of the mouth at least four hours in a day to maintain the healthy condition of the lining of the mouth."

3. Flossing every night

She revealed, "It is very essential to floss every night without fail. This facilitates in effectively cleaning the food particles stuck in between the enamels and also lessens the chances of bacterial and germ formation in your mouth."

4. Rinse your mouth after every meal

Dr. Jaradi said, "Rinsing after every meal is vital as it helps to disinfect your mouth and keeps your gums healthy. Mouthwashes have great anti-bacterial properties which also help in limiting the colonization of bacteria in the mouth."  

5. Sipping on water post sweets consumption

She said, "Drinking water can be as operative as flossing. The water facilitates to get in between the teeth, which averts sugar from doing as much impairment as it can. Stay away from consumption of drinks and edibles especially which are sugar-rich in between your meals."

6. Calcium-rich food items will help 

Dr. Jaradi opined, "Upsurge the intake of edibles that are rich in calcium as they can aid in rematerializing the teeth and stop cavity development."
