Cinnamon is a  spice, which is not only used to add flavour to food but is also used as a medical ingredient. Cinnamon can be bought as whole sticks, as a powder or in some form of extract. It’s best to buy them as sticks because it helps avoid adulteration.


Here’s how it works for weight loss


Cinnamon is made up of a large number of antioxidants. These antioxidants play an important role to treat oxidative stress. Oxidative stress is often linked to diseases, diabetes and inflammation, most of which contribute to fat storage in the body.


It aids in digestion and acts on enzymes which help slow the digestion of carbohydrates. 



Cinnamon also improves insulin sensitivity, making cell transportation and absorption of glucose better, drawing more energy from our food and ensuring that less of it is converted into fat. 


These properties make cinnamon a powerful agent for diabetics or anyone with insulin resistance and insulin sensitivity. 


How much to consume it? 



Cinnamon has a very strong flavour and hence it's advised to consume it in very small amounts. You shouldn't over consume cinnamon for two reasons: 


Cinnamon contains coumarin, which is possibly toxic to humans. Secondly, research suggests that increasing the intake of cinnamon doesn’t increase its benefits in the same proportion; 1 gram a day is enough to see any visible results.

How to consume it?


Cinnamon can be incorporated into your diet very easily. You can consume it with hot water on an empty stomach and can add it to coffee, tea, hot chocolate and even in soups and stews. It can also be added as a seasoning to your fruits, porridge, yogurt and eggs. Consume it in the morning to enjoy its digestive benefits all day.
