It's imperative to flush out toxins from your body. But for that, all you need to do is hydrate yourself well, and lead a balanced lifestyle. Using detox diet for releasing toxins from your body and losing weight is not only wrong, but that's not how it works. A typical detox diet involves a period of fasting, followed by a stringent diet of fresh juices, water, vegetables, and fruits. Herbal teas, supplements, and other herbs are also a part of the detox diet at times.

These detox diets aim to rest your organs, stimulate your liver to get rid of toxins, improve circulation, and provide your body with healthy nutrients. Detox diets vary from person to person and they also vary in duration. So if you are planning to go under a detox diet for weight loss, then here's why you shouldn't opt for one.

You tend to regain the weight you lose:

Detox diet for weight loss is not recommended because one cannot sustain the lost weight for a longer time. You'll lose a lot of weight, but it will be due to fluid and carbs loss, not because of the fat loss. You lose the water weight, which is regained quickly once you go off the cleanse.

Your body already does a good job of flushing toxins:

Detox diet claims that they help flush toxins out of our system, but our body already has an amazing detoxification system in our liver, kidneys, and colon. These diets don't do anything much that our bodies don't do naturally.

They are low in protein:

These detox juices will help you lose weight, but they'll not be able to deliver the protein your body needs to maintain and repair the muscle. In a way, you are starving your muscles of their building blocks. So while you may be losing weight, some of that weight may be muscle mass.

They can cause fatigue:

Detox diets lead to fatigue if you are not meeting your daily caloric needs. Detox diets are low in calories and have restricted fat and carbohydrate intakes. Carbohydrates are the body and brain's main source of fuel for daily physical and mental tasks. Inadequate intake can lead to fatigue and a slowed metabolism from energy conservation.

Can lead to dehydration:

There are fluids involved in detox diets, but since the caloric intake is restricted during such diets, the body may retain more water to use in body processes, such as maintaining fluid and electrolyte balance and digestive processes. It then increases the frequency of bowel movements to eliminate toxins and undigested foods. Water is lost during this process, which may lead to dehydration.

In order to lose weight, eat right and eliminate junk out of your life. Weight loss is a gradual process, and it happens once you do everything right.
