Every woman wants to fast on the occasion of Karva Chauth and we often ignore our health in the festive spirit. The Karva Chauth fast is the toughest fast. It starts with the sargi meal before the sunrise and the women are supposed to stay without food and water throughout the day till the moonrise. While this fast may be a great way to detox and cleanse your body, it may not be a healthy decision.

For women who suffer from diabetes, you know that this is a chronic health condition that needs to be managed with lots of care. It's not a good idea to fast without any precautions and medical consultation if you suffer from diabetes. Not fasting with care may cause your health to deteriorate and be very harmful to your body. But this does not mean that you cannot fast. The fasting rules will have to bend for diabetic women in order to keep them healthy and safe. If you want to fast with such a health condition, here are some tips that may come handy.

1. Before the fast consume healthy foods. Have a protein and nutrient-rich diet. Also, add some carbs in your meal to keep you going through the day.

2. Speak to your doctor and draw up a diet plan as per your condition. You cannot be fasting without your doctor's permission and consent. In case of an emergency, your doctor will know what to do.

3. Monitor your blood sugar levels throughout the day. Keeping a tab on your blood sugar levels is essential if you are skipping your meals.

4. Irrespective of the fast, don't go without water. Include water in your fast. Not doing so may prove to be harmful to your blood sugar levels. Dehydration can mess with your blood sugar levels.

5. Don't take a heavy diet when you open the fast. Keep your food light and healthy and include electrolyte-rich liquids. This will help your body heal and gain back the strength.

6. Nothing can be more important than your health. If your health does not support you, don't keep this fast but if you still try and fail don't push your body too far. Break your fast in the middle of the day if your health requires it.
