So, it is very important to shed those extra calories and fats to avoid other health issues. Read on to know some simple and effective ways to lose extra pounds.

1. Detox and have low carb diet

Detoxification will help you to get rid of all the greasy sugar and fat-laden foodstuff that you have in your body post Diwali bingeing and the same will help you to lose weight. There are many ways to detox your body such as drinking detox concoctions, sleeping well, drinking more water, eating more fruits and veggies among others.

Having a low carb diet will also help to lose weight. Sugar and carbohydrate-rich food increase the secretion of insulin hormone and, insulin is known to store fat. So going on on low carb diet can keep the store of glycogen low and this reduces the storage of fat and thus help in reducing weight.

2. Portion size smaller

Instead of having large 2-3 big meals throughout the day, one should go for smaller meals as the same will kick off your metabolism rate higher thus burning more calories. If you are hungry even after small meals then have fruits, makhanas or dry fruits to keep hunger pangs at bay.

3. HIIT Training

High-Intensity Interval Training aka HIIT will not only help you to increase your heart rate but will help you sweat it out and help you to shed extra calories. It will replenish your body's system and will boost up your metabolism too, thus leading to weight loss.

4. Have more potassium-rich food items

During the festivities we tend to drink more alcohol then we should consume. And post Diwali one should include potassium-rich food items as they help to prevent and delay alcohol absorption in the body. For the unversed, alcohol is processed before the fats and carbs to generate energy so in order to keep absorption of alcohol at bay increase the level of potassium.

5. Intermittent fasting

Bangalore based Nutritionist & Food Coach- Anupama Menon says, "Everyone today is talking of intermittent fasting. It may not make it to the crown of a lifestyle practice for all but everyone can use this principle during the festive season to better regulate their weighing scales. Apply the 14-hour fasting principle. So essentially if you have last eaten at 12pm, you will eat next at 12noon or 2 pm. Waiting it out to 2 pm will give you a greater advantage. But hydrate yourself well, you can have black coffee, lemon juice, green tea and the like but nothing with calories."

She added, "what if you cannot last out until 14 hours and 12 hours is all you could manage? There’s a solution, last the remaining 2 hours with fat. A cup of black coffee with 2-3 tsp butter, or for those who like consuming ghee, just 2 tsps of plain ghee will last you another 2 hours."

"Even after you have broken your fast, consume a meal where ½ your plate has veggies, a quarter has carbs and the remaining quarter has protein. It’s important to have a well balanced and fulfilling meal at the end of the fast."
