Staying hydrated: How to stay hydrated WITHOUT drinking water

Our body depends on water to survive - every cell, tissue, and organ in your body needs water to work properly. Water also maintains body temperature, removes waste, and lubricates our joints. Ideally, we should drink two litres of water every single day. That being said, different people need different amounts of water to stay hydrated. Hydration level varies with age, gender, weight and even for pregnant and new mothers. While water is best for staying hydrated, other drinks and foods can help you stay hydrated too! If you often forget about drinking water, here are a few food items that will keep you adequately hydrated throughout the day!

 

 

Include dairy in your meals

According to some studies milk is more hydrating than milk! Loaded with proteins, carbohydrates, calcium and proteins, milk is also extremely filling. You can substitute a glass of water with a glass of milk for an instant boost of hydration!

 

 

Sip on smoothies

Smoothies are one of the best food items to indulge in every day. Blend yogurt and  fresh fruits (or vegetables) and your delicious, healthy and hydrating smoothie is ready! Strawberries, peaches, cucumbers, spinach, and blueberries can all be added to your smoothie mix!

 

 

Replace unhealthy snacks with a bowl of soup

Brothy soups have adequate water content which is great for keeping you hydrated for a long time. Meat or vegetable broth are very healthy and add a distinct flavour to the soup. Add fresh vegetables such as tomatoes, onions, zucchini etc. for a good dose of water content!

 

 

Freeze your fruits

Popsicles are loved by everyone! If you aren’t too keen on having fruits the regular way, freeze them into popsicles. Add small cubes of strawberries, kiwis, grapefruit to watermelon juice. Pour them into popsicle moulds and freeze them for a few hours. Your hydrating fruit popsicles are ready!

 

 

Go green

Include lots of green, leafy vegetables to your diet. Salads are a great way to give you a hydration boost. In fact, leafy greens such as lettuce is known to contain 94 percent water! Include celery, tomatoes, bell peppers, and carrots to your make your salad extra hydrating!
