When it comes to visiting a doctor, it can get nerve-wracking at times. Especially if you are visiting that doctor for the first time. It's okay to feel shy and uncomfortable since it's your first time, but it's not okay to not ask questions or to hide things from your doctor. Especially, when it comes to ladies, they have to visit their gynecologists for multiple reasons. Be it menstruation cycle issues, some hormonal imbalance, pregnancy, obesity, or PCOD, we ladies have to visit our gynecs. 

 

If you are someone who hasn't visited a gynec yet and are nervous about your first appointment, then read below to find out a few things that every first-timer should keep in mind. No one tells you about these things, but knowing these things will make you a bit comfortable, and less out of place. We know you'll be nervous, but health should always come first. 

 

Don't feel awkward:

Gynecs deal with women's bodies on a daily basis and it's normal for them. You'll feel uncomfortable the first time, but remember it is purely for medical and health reasons, and it's the doctor's job to do so. 

 

Take someone with you:

It's always a better idea to take someone along who has prior experience with gynecologists when you go to one for the first time. Having the company of another person will offer you the help you could need and make things more comfortable for yourself.

 

Be honest:

Gynecs deal with dozens of patients daily, and it's their job to ask a few things to their patients. So it's advised to keep your doctor in the loop about your sex life, menstruation cycle and everything else. You'll feel awkward, but remember health comes first. 

 

Be hygienic:

Gynecs don't care whether you have shaved or not. But you have to take care of your hygiene. So make sure to wash your private parts suitably before visiting a gynecologist.

 

Everything is kept confidential:

If you are above 18, then the doctor is bound to keep all your secrets without sharing it with anyone. But if you are below 18 years, then you have to take your parents along, and the doctor will have to keep them updated.

 

You can visit while you are on your periods:

If you have your appointment scheduled for a particular date, but you have your periods on, you can still go ahead with the visit if it's an emergency. 

 

Ask questions:

Not everyone can understand the medical terms and jargon, if your doctor prescribes you certain things and you are confused about it or haven't understood it completely, then it's better to ask. The doctor is there to take care of you and will clear out any doubts that you might have.
