April 19 is marked by World Liver Day that is used to observe and spread awareness around the second largest organ of our body, the Liver. This day is observed to make people aware of how to keep the liver healthy by recognising its important role in keeping our body fit.

The liver is one of the most complex organs of our body besides the brain and it plays a key role in keeping our body active and healthy. It plays a vital role in keeping the digestive system of our body in check and regulating the metabolism including the body’s immune system. 

As everything you eat or drink passes through the liver, maintain a balanced diet and limiting our eating habits is very important in keeping the liver healthy. It directly impacts the health of our liver and hence, it is an organ that can be easily be damaged if not taken care of. 

Here are a few simple steps to take of the liver and keep it toxin free:

Have a balanced diet

Maintain your diet and not eating junk food is one of the most important steps that you need to look after. Make sure you include lots of green leafy vegetables in your diet, protein food, fruits and dairy products. Eat vegetables like broccoli, cabbage, carrot, apple and cauliflower.

Exercise regularly

Exercising regularly helps in detoxifying your lungs, It opens your lungs to more oxygen and fresh air. It generates more oxygen in your body and purifies your blood. Being overweight or obese can also cause a problem to your liver.

Say no to alcohol and cigarettes
