Hibiscus flowers are colourful and fragrant and believe it or not, and they can be grown in your backyard! They come in various colours from white to pink to red. They are known to be tropical flowers, but contrary to this, they can grow and flourish in a variety of climates.

The four most popular types of hibiscus flowers include Rose Mallow, Rose of Sharon, Hardy Hibiscus and Tropical Hibiscus. Each of these have their own lighting, watering and soiling needs. So, if you are wanting to keep a hibiscus flower in your home, here are a few things to keep in mind.

Choose a sunny area

Keep your hibiscus plant in areas where you get direct sunlight for at least 3-4 hours, for your plant to flourish and grow. Even in the winter months, make sure to place in a well-lit and sunny spot.

Watering needs

If you see the leaves turning yellow, then it can be a sign of dehydration. Water your plant only when the soil feels dry after touching. Water it every week in summers, and every two weeks in winter months.

Replant in winter months

Replant your hibiscus a bigger pot, in winter months, when it is dormant, as it blooms and flourishes in summer months.

Plant them in the right kind of pot

To plant your hibiscus plant and to ensure that it produces flowers, make sure to choose a pot that is not too deep. It should be sufficiently wide for it to grow but not too deep as it would then focus on growing its roots in the pot, instead of growing flowers.
