High blood pressure is a very common health condition in today’s world. We have such busy and unhealthy lives. We always make the wrong lifestyle choices and live and eat unhealthy because we just don’t have enough time to worry about ourselves. We fail to care about our own selves and our bodies. Every time we check our blood pressure and realize that it’s high, we simply blame the high-stress levels or the salty food we snacked or perhaps it was because we missed a meal due to our very important meeting. We never try to reach the root of the problem. It’s important to keep an eye out for these things that could secretly be causing high blood pressure.

1. The over-the-counter medication you take could be the cause of high blood pressure. Some medicines like ibuprofen can increase blood pressure. Avoid or limit your OTC medications that can cause high blood pressure. Consult your doctor before you consume any medicine.

2. Caffeine may keep you up and energetic but it also tends to make you jittery. A high intake of caffeine can cause trouble and raise your blood pressure. Limit your caffeine consumption.

3. We often turn to home remedies to lower or regulate our blood pressure. Sadly, some of those home remedies can do just the opposite. Things like licorice and soy can raise our blood pressure. Check with your doctor before you resort to home remedies. Ask your doctor what is safe and what isn’t.

4. Smoking is one addiction that can never do you any good. It can be a cause for your high blood pressure. Smoking increases the risk of heart disease as well.

5. Sleep apnea is a common sleep disorder. But what we don’t know is that interrupted breathing can cause a decrease in oxygen level which raises your blood pressure. Get your sleep apnea treated in order to protect yourself from other dangerous health conditions and diseases.
