Fitness enthusiasts must be aware of the importance of both pre and post-workout as the same helps to improve performance and achieve their desired goals. An optimal amount of nutrient prior to the gym or any kind of workout will maximize your performance and will minimize any muscle damage. And just like pre-workout, the after-gym meal is of utmost importance as during a workout, glycogen stores get used up and muscle's proteins are also damaged. So, in order to get the glycogen stores and muscle proteins, one should eat the right nutrients post-workout too. Also, it will help to recover faster as well.

If you want to know what is the best and ideal workout diet, then you are at right place. In an exclusive interview with Pinkvilla, Maahek Nair who has been training Bollywood actors such as Shraddha Kapoor, Sushant Singh Rajput, Aditya Roy Kapur, and Kartik Aaryan among others gave an insight about the same.

She said, "It all depends on what is your goal. So, if your goal is weight loss then ideally a pre-workout meal should probably be black coffee. Right now the trend is Keto. So, a butter coffee before a workout would be best if somebody wants to achieve weight loss. And post-workout should include a good amount of protein. So, if you are on the ketogenic diet, then you can go for 2 whole eggs, some cheese with basic green vegetables."

"But if you want to gain lean muscle mass, a pre-workout meal could be oats porridge or oatmeal. And the macros and micros will be counted as per a person's body composition. So, when we train we do not look and we advise people to not look at scale as it is all about muscle mass vs fat mass. So, even if you gain a kilo of lean muscle mass you would completely look different."

She added, "A post-workout meal can be sweet potatoes and it can be in the form of french fries or boiled with that again one should also have a good amount of protein. A vegetarian can go for tofu, paneer, sprouts as these are good sources of protein. And non-vegetarians can go for fish and chicken."

Bottom line
Make sure you have the right amount and right kind of pre and post-workout meal as mentioned above to achieve your fitness goal.
