Ketogenic aka Keto diet is one of the common diets that people across the world are following in order to lose fats and weight. For the unversed, keto diet is low-carb and high-fat diet and is quite similar to Atkins and other low-carb diets. By following the diet, the body starts using fats as the primary source of energy instead of carbohydrates which is the preferred source of fuel. Reduction of carbs leads to a metabolic state called ketosis (fat-burning state where ketones are produced). Apart from aiding in weight loss, the diet also helps to regulate blood sugar and insulin levels. It also helps to reduce the chances of Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, acne and cancer among others.

Speaking about the types of Keto diets, standard keto diet includes very low-carb, moderate-proteins and high-fat food contents. The fat, protein and carbs ratio is 75:20:5. Another one is cyclical ketogenic diet, in this one has to follow 5 ketogenic days followed by 2 high-carb days. The third type is targeted keto diet and during this one can eat carbs around workout. The fourth type is the high-protein keto diet. It is similar to SKD but it includes more protein.

The rage, as mentioned, is quite high among weight watchers but many people often do mistakes while following it. In an EXCLUSIVE interview with Pinkvilla, Arpit Sharma, a nutritionist & fitness consultant revealed some of the common misconceptions and mistakes people do who are on a Keto diet. He said that first and foremost is that many don't consult a professional and they rely on Google articles which are not ideal.

He said, "They don't consider it important to consult a professional and 70% of them rely on Google articles." He added," Some mostly rely more on fat intake and not on fat, protein & carbs ratios while some don't include enough electrolytes (sodium & potassium) to their diet. Few people don't check whether they are in Ketosis or not, on a regular basis."

He also said that many follow it for short term and that's why they hardly get any results. Other mistakes he listed out were: not drinking enough water, less addition of green leafy veggies (which are really very low in carbohydrates), not calculating their daily macros, not including intermittent fasting among others.

One of the major blunders he mentioned that many Keto diet followers do is how many don't know what kinds of foods, sweeteners, and drinks among others are allowed or to be excluded in this lifestyle.
