The Accidental Prime Minister follows the career of India's most misunderstood politician. Sanjaya Baru (Akshaye Khanna) gives us a microscopic glimpse inside the innocent, naive, and well-read PM Manmohan Singh (Anupam Kher). The first half of the movie focuses on the prime minister's first term, Baru's role as his media advisor and close ally, and the subversive relationship between the prime minister and Sonia Gandhi, who was in charge until the prime minister put his foot down and threatened to resign if the nuclear deal was rejected. The second half examines Prime Minister Singh's second term and his slow decline at the hands of his own party.
