Chehre is a movie about Sameer Mehra (Emraan Hashmi), who faces a tough time when he encounters a group of retired law professionals. Sameer is the chief of an advertising agency called Paradoy, and he goes to a hill station in the North for an ad shoot. However, he has to leave due to a work commitment in Delhi, and on his way, his car gets stuck due to heavy snow and a tree fall. Paramjeet Singh Bhullar (Annu Kapoor) suggests he stays at his friend Jagdish Acharya's (Dhritiman Chatterjee) house until it's safe to travel. There, he meets Hariya Jatav (Raghubir Yadav) and Lateef Zaidi (Amitabh Bachchan), and they tell him about a game they play where they conduct a mock trial since they are retired law professionals. They invite Sameer to play this game, and he agrees. The quartet tells him that he’ll be the accused in their court of law, and Paramjeet would defend him while Lateef would try to prove that he’s guilty, with Jagdish as the judge. Lateef, one of the retired law professionals, offers Sameer Mehra the opportunity to confess if he has ever committed a crime and gotten away with it, as they will then try him for that charge. However, Sameer confidently asserts that he has never committed a crime. Lateef then has a chance to try Sameer for any crime he wishes. During their conversation, Sameer admits to disliking his former boss, G S Oswal, as he was a tyrant. Sameer also reveals that Oswal recently died, and he took over his position. Hearing this, Lateef decides to try Sameer in their court for Oswal's 'murder.' Sameer is shocked and denies the accusation. Lateef assures the court that he is willing to put his legal reputation on the line and will never play the game again if he fails to prove Sameer's innocence. Although apprehensive at first, Sameer realizes it's just a game and need not worry. However, his anxiety resurfaces when he learns that Hariya Jatav, who he thought was a judge or lawyer, is, in fact, a hangman, and has a noose ready should Sameer be found guilty in their court. The rest of the film explores what happens next.

Chehre, co-written by Rumi Jafry and Ranjit Kapoor, is a mystery thriller about Sameer Mehra's (Emraan Hashmi) encounter with a group of retired legal professionals on his way to Delhi. The film starts strong, building up expectations with an interesting premise, but loses momentum and simmers down as it progresses. The first half is entertaining, and the dialogue sets up hope for a promising climax, but the second half spoils the experience with a weak plot and dragged storyline, culminating in an over-dramatic and underwhelming climax. The saving grace of the film are the performances of Amitabh Bachchan and Emraan Hashmi, who keep the film together, and the committed performances of Annu Kapoor, Dhritiman Chatterjee, and Raghubir Yadav. The background music is precise, and the makers did not force any songs. However, the potential of Rhea Chakraborty and Krystle D'Souza's roles is wasted. Overall, the film is watchable for Amitabh Bachchan fans, but as a thriller, it fails to deliver.
