Pinkvilla’s Review

Shershaah is a film that showcases the life of Captain Vikram Batra, a brave Indian Army officer who sacrificed his life for the nation during the Kargil War, and his relationship with his college-mate turned fiancé Dimple Cheema. Director Vishnuvaradhan invests a lot of time in the film to establish the love story that takes up a significant portion of the film. While the chemistry between the lead actors is delightful in parts, the director could have worked on the screenplay and dialogue to make a more earnest attempt at telling both the patriotic and romantic aspects of the story. The film's storyline fails to leave a lasting impact on the audience, with only a handful of dialogues being memorable. Despite Sidharth's effort to get into the skin of his character, his portrayal of the young, filmy Punjabi boy looks awkward at times, which detracts from the impact of the film. Furthermore, the loose screenplay and poor character representation of the actors, combined with the almost absent visualization of strategy during the war scenes, fail to live up to their potential and make sitting through some of the scenes a task. The film's end is emotional but does not deliver the expected punch. Overall, the film still delivers a story of true love.
