8 Years Of Special 26: Times When The Film Inspired Copy-Cat Crimes

Akshay Kumar starrer Special 26 completed 8 years of release, yesterday. The movie was based on 1987 Opera House heist, when a group looted a jeweler by posing as Income Tax officers. The filmmakers had made it clear that they weren't glorifying the heist but trying to share the story and create awareness. However, after the movie was released, this concept of posing as some authority to carry out a fake raid increased in the country.

Delhi: According to DNA reports, in 2017, a group tried to rob a jeweler in Karol Bagh by impersonating CBI officials.

Delhi, again: As per Hindustan Times reports, in 2019, four friends raided a house and collected 48 lakh in cash. Two of them were arrested.

Delhi, once again: Zee news report suggests, in 2020, five people tricked victims by collecting hefty amount of money for insurance policy and later posed as Anti-Corruption Bureau officials and charged money to help the victims gain the insurance money back. This is more like 'Double Special 26'.

It seems the movie had huge impact on Delhiites.
