Anime type: Josei

Josei manga, also known as "ladies" or "ladies' comics," is a genre of manga or anime mainly for female audiences in their late adolescence and adulthood. Viewers range in age from 15 to 44 years old. The Japanese word josei simply means "woman," "female," "feminine," or "womanhood," and has no connotations.

Josei , as opposed to shoujo man's often idealised romance, can depict realistic romance. Josei is typically more sexually explicit and has more mature storytelling, but this is not always the case. It's also not uncommon for topics like infidelity and rape to appear in josei manga aimed at a more adult audience. Other popular Josei series include Yun Kouga's Loveless, Ai Yazawa's Paradise Embrace etc Josei, targeted towards the older female audience, took a turn deviant from his shōjo manga counterpart, contrary to most common opinion, and cannot easily be said to share most of the most distinguishing features of shojo. Josei does not necessarily centre around an outgoing female protagonist, and sometimes does not. The most successful josei series in recent years have featured male protagonists and a main character.
