From Anushka Sharma to Deepika Padukone: The rise in Bollywood actresses turning film producers

From eye-candy roles to leading films single-handedly, Bollywood actresses have truly come a long way, popping the bubble of their comfort zone. And in the past few years, we have seen a rise in leading actresses turning film producers and opening their own production houses. Let’s take a look at some of their works:

Anushka Sharma: Anushka Sharma and her brother Karnesh Sharma have produced some magnificent stories. Their production house ‘Clean Slate Filmz’ have helmed films like NH10, Phillauri, Pari and digital releases like Paatal Lok and Bulbbul. As a producer, Anushka Sharma is unafraid of experimenting with different, path-breaking content ideas.

Priyanka Chopra Jonas: Priyanka Chopra Jonas has kept her focus on producing regional films. Her production house ‘Purple Pebble Pictures’ has given us Marathi films like ‘Ventilator’ and ‘Paani’ that won the National Award. Apart from Marathi films, she has produced Bhojpuri, Punjabi and Bengali films as well.

Deepika Padukone: Deepika Padukone is very conscious about the projects that she takes up, be it the actress in her or the movie producer in her. Her production house ‘Ka Productions’ was incorporated in 2018. ‘Chhapaak’ happens to be her first film as a producer.

Alia Bhatt is the latest name who has also joined the above actresses and opened her production house ‘Eternal Sunshine.’

Gender stereotyping is a big issue in Hindi cinema but, with actresses taking charge of some significant positions, the future of Bollywood seems promising. Actresses like Kangana Ranaut, Madhuri Dixit, Juhi Chawla and Dia Mirza have also turned producers.
