From getting rejected for '3 Idiots' to ruling Bollywood, a look at Anushka Sharma's journey

On her birthday (1st May), we look at the career of successful actor-producer Anushka Sharma. Initially, just like any outsider, Anushka had to also struggle a lot. She had auditioned for the lead in '3 Idiots', but Kareena Kapoor eventually played the role. Her audition tape went viral after she entered Bollywood. Her first film 'Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi', co-starring Shah Rukh Khan, became a massive success and propelled her career forward.

After doing a fair share of hits and misses, Anushka decided to turn producer at a young age; a move which was called risky by many. She starred in and produced the thriller 'NH10'. Despite being perceived as an experimental film, it went on to become a critical and commercial success. This further gave her confidence to also pursue production. Since then, she has produced a number of films and shows that did well, including the acclaimed crime drama 'Paatal Lok'. Unlike many celebs, Anushka has been supporting independent voices and new talents. She's been more active as a producer lately and has several films in the pipeline. Here's wishing her a happy birthday.
