College Romance Season 2 Review: The Fun Continues

Do you find those ‘When you are a college student’ type of videos on YouTube to be relatable? If yes, then you will enjoy TVF’s webseries College Romance. This series can be defined as ‘relatable short videos combined together.’ While its first season was released way back in 2018, the new season is now available on Sony LIV with premium subscription. This can’t be considered as an upgrade of the first season as it is just a continuation of their fun life.

The protagonists Naira (Apoorva Arora), Bagga (Gagan Arora), Deepika (Shreya Mehta), Karan (Keshav Sadhna) and Trippy (Manjot Singh) are back from their vacation and resume their college life. The plot revolves around aforementioned characters and their relationships with each other. Naira and Bagga are the perfect couple. They are like those cute couples you will find on Instagram reels, doing weird and fun stuff. On the contrary we have Deepika and Karan. Deepika is short tempered and can burst any time. The person who suffers this wrath is Karan. Only thing that might keep them together is ‘special’ brownie. And Trippy is like air, he will tickle you to laughter. We get to see how these characters take challenging decisions and fight hurdles that come their way. All the prominent actors are already gelled up in their character as this is the second installation of the series. They have created their own signature style, which is incomparable.

Director Apoorv Singh Karki has done a remarkable job of keeping the mood right. Each episode will tap on all your emotions. He knows that he is making something that people might have seen somewhere but he adds his unique touch to it. The overall premise is like a time machine, which takes you back to college.

The writers Sidhant Mago, Aakash Ahuja and Manan Madaan have succeeded in writing this enjoyable series. Young adults have a very limited attention span. They are always looking for something that will grip them with suspense. However, in the genre of college romcom, it is never about ‘what’s next’ as the present moment is valued more. The writers hold us in each moment. The five characters never side-line each other. They have been given their own space with equal importance.

However, the notion that youngsters use at least one cuss word in every line doesn’t go with me. Yes, when you are in college, there is no filter on how you speak but the element of abuse to create humour is not that fun.

Overall, College Romance Season 2 is two-and-a-half-hour compilation of relatable videos. It will give you a break from your current hectic life. You might want to call your college buddies and laugh on your inside jokes. I would rate it as 4 on a scale of 5 and suggest you to binge watch this light and breezy series
