COVAXIN v/s COVISHIELD v/s SPUTNIK V: Is there a superior vaccine?

Sputnik V has been approved for its use in India after Oxford-Astrazeneca's Covishield and Bharat Biotech's Covaxin. Per dose of Sputnik will cost around ₹995 and will be manufactured in Dr. Reddy’s laboratories in Hyderabad.

As we know, all three approved vaccines in India have their own benefits as well as side effects. Talking about vaccine type, Covishield is a type of harmless virus modified with COVID-19 spike proteins that boost antibodies to fight the COVID virus. On the other hand, Covaxin contains an entire virus particle that is dead or inactive which boosts antibodies in the human body. Sputnik V has an efficacy rate of 91.6%, which is amazing.

Side effects of the Covishield vaccine might be itching at the site of injection, feverish feeling, headache, feeling dizzy. If you go for Covaxin, you may experience swelling at the injection point, fever, headache, nausea, body ache, stiffness in the upper arm.

To conclude, no vaccine is superior or inferior. Instead, we should focus on getting slots and vaccinating ourselves as soon as possible as there is a possibility that the third wave could be worse than the second wave. To bring back normalcy in life, we have to focus on getting vaccinated instead of comparing vaccines.
