Deepika Padukone Once Turned Down The Film Because Of Gender Pay Disparity

She is no doubt one of the leading ladies ruling over the industry, and is one of the highest paid actresses in the business. Despite a string of consecutive hit films, the actress revealed that she too had a tryst with pay disparity on the basis of gender. Deepika claimed that she turned down a film due to the pay gap with her male co-star. "I know my track record and what I'm worth. I know that his films haven't been doing well as my films have been doing. It made absolutely no sense. I was okay to say no to that film based on that one thing, as I thought it was unfair," she was quoted saying. Speaking her mind about the pay gap on the basis of gender and not on one’s worth or creative talent, the star said she is ready to do what’s necessary and even turn down films when needed, because “I want to be able to sleep peacefully at night.” She went on to add, "I don't think I'll be able to live with the thought knowing that I have been a part of a film, had the same creative contribution or bringing the same value to a film but being underpaid."
