Did Nepotism Debate Finally Push Karan Johar to Shelve Takht?

Reportedly, Karan Johar's most anticipated project Takht has been shelved permenantly. The film had a promising star cast like Kareena Kapoor Khan, Alia Bhatt, Janhvi Kapoor, Bhumi Pednekar, Anil Kapoor, Ranveer Singh and Vicky Kaushal.Huge hype was created around the film. This magnum opus was supposed to create history in the genre of period drama. But what made makers take such a striking decision?

It seems 2020 has been harsh on Bollywood. The debate on nepotism has been so intense that films like Sadak 2, Khaali Peeli etc. faced public flak. Starkids have been heavily targeted previously. This may have puzzled the financers as it was a huge risk to invest in such an ensemble of starkids.

Takht had been delayed for a long time and with the 'boycott' trends increasing, the uncertainties of the film's success were on a rise. Did this all affect Karan Johar and pushed him to give up on his ambitious project?
