How did Gangs of Wasseypur become an acting masterclass?

Anurag Kashyap’s dark comedy, Gangs of Wasseypur, is a crime film divided into two parts. If someone had told me in 2012, that this film will be a game changer and will give extraordinary actors to our industry, I would have laughed it off. Now, when I see back, I see it to be like a coal mine which provided us some of the rarest diamonds. I may call it a case study for budding actors or perhaps an acting masterclass. Each prominent actor from the film has now paved a unique path.

Richa Chadda- The Fukrey girl states that this one character of Nagma in Wasseypur granted her some 11 new roles. This itself is an example of how powerful the film was, not only for her but each actor associated in it.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui- I remember seeing him as a pickpocket in Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. and never thought if he would be an example for everyone. From entertaining films to funny memes, he has given us all.

Pankaj Tripathi- He had been striving hard since 2003 in films like Chillar party, omkara, Agneepath etc. but he is always hailed for his outstanding performance in Gangs of Wasseypur.

Manoj Bajpai- This Family Man has been an engaging performer since ever and it is delightful to just watch him on screen in any role.

Rajkumar Rao- Versatile actors like him are rare to found. He has a talent to play similar characters in different ways. He can charm you with his sincere look and do something very cunning at the same time.

Jaideep Ahlawat- Recently seen in Paatal Lok, he always grips my attention. Just like Shahid Khan of Wasseypur, Ahlawat has a history of struggle and had debuted in 2008 with a Short film, Namreen.

The list of such versatile talents that Gangs of Wasseypur gave us is quite long. It includes names like- Tigmanshu Dhulia, Piyush Mishra, Vineet Kumar, Jameel Khan, Pramod Pathak, Huma Qureshi etc. If just one strong film (of two parts) can become a storehouse of talent, everyone must watch it and observe these actors.

Who among these is your all-time favourite actor?
