Is OTT a ray of hope for promising films like the Parineeti Chopra starrer, Saina?

Parineeti Chopra starrer film, Saina is a biopic on the badminton player Saina Nehwal. The film was supposed to release last year, but the pandemic made them postpone the release date. Reportedly, the makers are discussing over its release on OTT platforms. Though, the theatres are running with 50% occupancy, it seems that the makers are finding it difficult to take this risk.

In this month, movies like Ram Prasad ki Tehrvi and Madam Prime Minister had a theatrical release. The films didn’t receive deserved exposure, despite having a strong foundation of story, characters and actors, as many people have found comfort in OTT platforms. Earlier, online platforms were majorly used for promotional events and were considered secondary, this new change in audience’s choice has turned it into an opportunity to reach more people. While theatres call public to watch films, OTT pushes the films and series out, right into everyone’s home. For makers, who are sceptical about the pull that their films can create, OTT is a great option.

With internet boom in India, chances of people choosing OTT platforms are much higher. However, issues like piracy are yet to be tackled, and nothing can match the big-screen experience.
