Salman Khan, Karan Johar, and the godfather culture in Bollywood

While there's self-made stars in Bollywood, a lot of up and coming actors have godfathers in the industry who help them through the process.

Some of the most well known godfathers are Salman Khan and Karan Johar who are known to have pushed and made several stars' careers. This holds true especially for starkids. Actors like Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt, and Sidharth Malhotra were launched by Karan Johar. Meanwhile, Salman Khan has been referred to as the godfather of many new entrants into the industry. Arjun Kapoor and Sonakshi Sinha have often credited Salman with aiding them in their journey. In fact, besides Karan, Salman is also known for launching fresh faces. Of course this "guide" itself is a privilege that not all aspirants have the access to.

Is nepotism actually linked to the godfather culture in the industry? And if it is, shouldn't the audience move their attention to this instead of just focusing on the nepotism debate?
