When Rekha went through a witch hunt after her husband's death

Rekha's personal life has been shrouded in mystery. People still wonder why she wears a sindoor despite the death of her husband. But we don't really know her full story. In the book 'Rekha: The Untold Story', writer Yasser Usman has mentioned in detail her personal life and what she went through after her husband Mukesh Agarwal died by suicide. Rekha married Mukesh, who was a Delhi-based entrepreneur, in 1990. The two had met through a common friend Bina Ramani who is a socialite. Things were going well until Mukesh suffered huge losses in business and slipped into chronic depression. He was also under medication for the same and Rekha was unaware of it.

Mukesh was also unhappy with her professional life and wanted her to quit acting. This affected their marriage and Rekha's work made her frequent visits to Delhi, less frequent. A few months later, the two filed for divorce. Seven months after their marriage, Mukesh hanged himself with her dupatta. She was then subjected to a national witchhunt and trial by media with many calling her a "man-eater." Anupam Kher also joined the bandwagon and called her a "national vamp." Director Subhash Ghai had said, "I think after this any respectable family will think twice before accepting any actress as their bahoo."
