Will Kajol’s latest movie help us reflect on women’s issues that continue to affect our society?

**TRIBHANGA SPOILERS included!! If you haven’t seen the movie, don’t read this!** Kajol’s latest movie, “Tribhanga”, did a great job of addressing a variety of women’s issues, with a light touch, and a good sense of humor. The writers used a family of three generations of women to tell their stories. Starting with a grandmother who was shunned by society for pursuing a writing career instead of prioritizing what was considered a traditional family life. Followed by a daughter being molested as a child.

As a result, she lost her trust in men and grew up to have many boyfriends and a child out of wedlock. And finally, a granddaughter being ridiculed by peers for being an illegitimate child. She then decides to marry into an old fashioned family. She is then pressured into considering abortion if her baby is a girl. These are all very complex topics to portray in a short movie. However, they were handled with great care and humor.

In my opinion, the saddest moment in this movie was when the stories of the women seemed to come full circle. The granddaughter willingly married into a patriarchal family with a belief system that both her grandmother and mother fought so hard against. It was almost like these women took two steps forward and three steps back.

Kudos to Kajol for making this movie her OTT debut. We need more films like this one. Movies with messages that can help us reflect on women’s issues in our society. Hopefully this will help women progress.

Do you think movies like this will help society break free of the cycle that this movie portrayed?
