Read on to discover the do’s and don’ts of fashion in the rainy season, and how you can elevate your wardrobe accordingly in the Amazon Wardrobe Refresh Sale!

How do the seasons affect your fashion choices?

Apart from the obvious shifts in lengths and fabrics, climatic transitions bring about a plethora of other forms of changes in styles, trends and colours. Most of the times, you are subconsciously making fashion choices that cater to the season and are convenient – soft pastels, flowy silhouettes and light fabrics in the intense summer heat, dark and warm tones, rigid silhouettes and heavy fabrics in the winters for example.

In that context, monsoon is arguably the most difficult season to style yourself fashionably. With primary focus on utility and practicality, there are many things to avoid wearing in the rainy season- simply to ensure your comfort and to preserve your clothes and accessories.

1. Avoid wearing white or other light-coloured clothes. If you are walking down a water-logged street, the chances of a car or bike splashing mud on your clothes are way too high to risk donning light colours. You must have seen a common trend with celebrities and influencers (notably and recently- Nora Fatehi) breaking rules and wearing pristine all-white in the monsoon months this year- but trust us, they aren’t really out and about. You will have other days to hop on this trend, let’s stay practical now.

2. Avoid leather footwear. These may be classic, go-to options for many occasions, but the rainy season is not one of them. Leather tends to accumulate moisture which eats away at it and increases chances of fungal growth. Moisture can cause permanent damage to leather shoes and sandals, like cracks and wrinkles, distortion, discolouration and patches to name a few. Stick to rubbers and synthetic fibres for your footwear this season- we promise not all of them look drab!

3. Ditch your denims. While understandably a go-to wardrobe essential, denims should be avoided in the monsoon season as the thick, heavy weight fabric takes a really long time to dry. Wet jeans are an absolute nightmare, and can cause skin infections if worn for long – even if they are just wet at the ankles from when you had to cross a flooded street. Choose lightweight, natural and breathable fabrics like cotton, and free-fitting clothes that preferably end well above your ankles like shorts, skirts and summer dresses.
