From Champion to Train Passenger: How Shivam Dube returned to Mumbai after winning T20 World Cup
Shivam Dube fools TC and fellow passengers to travel by 3rd AC train ticket after T20 World Cup win. Find out how.
The Indian cricket team created history on Sunday, March 8, 2026, when they defended their ICC T20 World Cup trophy against New Zealand. Shivam Dube scored 26 not out off 8 balls (3 fours, 2 sixes) to help his team post a competitive score of 255/5, which they were able to defend and win the trophy. Shortly after the celebrations died down, the star was joined by his wife, Anjum Khan, and a friend as they decided to skip the flight route to meet their two kids back home in Mumbai as soon as possible. The couple opted for a 3rd AC train travel instead of the luxurious First Class flight seat that he may be used to.
Shivam Dube details his travel back to Mumbai after winning the T20 World Cup
Revealing to The Indian Express about why he decided to take the railways, the left-arm batsman shared that since no flight was available, he took a train from Ahmedabad early in the morning to Mumbai, in order to reach his kids sooner. He revealed, “Me, my wife and a friend decided to take a train. 3rd AC tickets were available so we decided to book them. Everyone we spoke to was worried, family and friends. What if someone recognised me at the station or inside the train?”
But Shivam Dube was prepared with a disguise, wearing a cap, a mask, and a full-sleeved T-shirt. He boarded the train set for 5:10 am departure just 5 minutes before, so as not to alert any waiting passengers on the platform, and rushed inside.
When the ticket collector arrived to check their passes and asked about the name, “Shivam Dube? Woh kaun hai, cricketer?” (Who is he, cricketer?), his wife replied, “No, no. Woh kahan se aayega (where will he come from)?”
He remained cautious of fellow travelers during the night, despite choosing to stay on his berth most of the time; however, he was thankful that no one recognized him. While alighting at Borivali, he was again worried about being exposed, and so was given police escort, which made things easy.
