The Bangladesh Cricket Board named South Africa's Russell Domingo as the new head coach of the national team. He will replace Steve Rhodes and will continue for two years. Earlier, the BCB decided to part ways with Rhodes after the team failed to qualify for the semifinals of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019.

BCB president Nazmul Hasan said, "He has a wealth of experience and we have been very impressed with his passion and coaching philosophy."

He also said that they chose Russell Domingo over other candidates mainly due to his availability. "We also sought a full-time coach…Domingo said he was very keen to work with the boys and didn’t want any holiday breaks. These are the reasons why we found him suitable."

Domingo was eagerly looking forward for the challenge. He said, "I have followed Bangladesh's progress with keen interest and I am extremely excited to assist the team in reaching the goals that they are capable of."

Russell Domingo had earlier coached the South African Cricket Team from 2013 till 2017. Previously he served as Gary Kirsten's assistant. Under him, the African nation reached the semifinals of the ICC World Twenty20 in Bangladesh in 2014.

Bangladesh had brought in New Zealand spinner Daniel Vettori as the spin bowling consultant while former South African cricketers Neil Mckenzie and Charl Langeveldt will be the batting and pace bowling coach respectively.

After their 0-3 loss against Sri Lanka earlier this month, Bangladesh will look to regroup and get back to winning ways when they take on Afghanistan in the only Test at Chattogram on September 5th.
