Former New Zealand skipper Brendon McCullum is expected to become the assistant coach of IPL team Kolkata Knight Riders, a media report claimed.

The aggressive player, who played his last competitive game on August 7 this week, will take over as the head coach of the Caribbean Premier League side Trinbago Knight Riders, and will be the assistant coach of KKR in the IPL, ESPNCricinfo reported.

He will be replacing Australian Simon Katich in both roles. The dasher had previously played for KKR, and he was the one who set the stage on fire in the maiden IPL game way back in 2008, as his unbeaten 158 set the tone for the tournament. He played with the team for five years and even captained KKR in IPL 2009.

McCullum had retired from international cricket in 2016, but continued playing in T20 leagues. He announced his retirement from all forms as a player recently. He has played 101 Tests, scoring 6453 runs, and has also featured in 260 ODIs.
